The Mt. Charlie Challenge ride is this Saturday and we are stoked and ready! We have decided to keep registration open and let new riders sign up on ride day

Check-In and Registration is at 7-8am

Rain or Shine – but we expect a great day!

Bring all pledges that you have collected in an envelope with your name on it, along with raffle tickets to turn in

Mass start at 8:00am for the 100k and the 50k will go out right after

Registration Forms
At the check-in and registration area, there will be a table with the information and forms listed immediately below. As part of the County requiring us to obtain a permit this year, the County is requiring our riders to sign a “conditions agreement”. The agreement will be available at check-in for you to sign. It’s also printed at the bottom of this email for your review. Here’s the forms and information you’ll find at the check-in tables:

Waivers for riders that didn’t send them in yet

Additional registration forms for new riders

Maps of each route – they have support phone numbers on them

Full listing of turns for both routes

County’s conditions agreement

On the Ride

Rest stops and SAG support:

The SAG vehicle and all rest stops will have some first aid and water. The SAG can pick you up if you need help or have just had enough.

Rest stops will have a list of riders, please let them know when you come through.

Rest stops will have food, drinks and happy faces.

Rest stops and SAG finish up at 2:00, let them know if you would like a ride back.

Last but not least
Come back to Skypark behind the recreation building and join in our family BBQ, we’ll have live music. Bring the family and friends and have them meet you there. Lunch is served between 11:30 and 3. We will have skirt steak, chicken, hot dogs and veggie burgers, along with salad, garlic bread, drinks and desserts. Additional lunch tickets can be purchased there. We will hold our raffle at 2:00. Cycle Sport will be giving away a brand new cruiser bike and there are quite a few more prizes.

Let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you Saturday for another AWESOME Mt. Charlie Challenge.

Please review the conditions below:

I, as a Mt. Charlie Challenge rider, acknowledge the following:

Congratulations to our local friends the Santa Cruz Education Foundation on their recent grant from the Packard Foundation. It’s great to see the approaches everyone takes to raising funds to support our local schools.

The Scotts Valley Educational Foundation raises money through events, business partners, and fundraising. We would love to expand our methods to include grants, but we need volunteers with the desire and commitment (and possibly experience) to help make this happen. If you’re interested, please contact us at info@svef.net to get involved.

The 100k ride:
• Check-in & new registrations start 7am
• Mass 100k start 8:00am

The Scotts Valley Middle School Band will be playing between the two check-in periods, so make sure you don’t miss that treat!

The 50k ride:
• Check-in & new registrations start 8am
• Mass 50k start 9:00am

Both rides will feature many rest stops along the way and SAG vehicles will be present. You will get a map at check in that will include cell phone numbers of the people driving the SAG vehicle. If you require assistance or need to be picked up, call them. Keep in mind at the top of Eureka Canyon there may be no cell phone reception.

All SAG Support stops at 2pm so they too can enjoy the BBQ.

Lunch:
• Food served 11-3
• Symptoms of a Wet Guitar band play 12-3
• Raffle prizes will be announced at 2 pm

Cyclesport will be available for last minute maintenance help, if need be.

Course Notice
We wanted to make sure all of you riders that are going up Mt. Charlie for the 100k route are aware that the road is quite rough once you are on Highland Way and Eureka Canyon.

Due to prior mudslides the road is closed to car traffic, which makes it nice for bicycles (no traffic), but the road is a rough surface. Please be aware when going in and out of sunlight that you watch the holes and bumps.

We had our group ride go out that way last weekend and they said it was no problem and beautiful. Since it is closed to car traffic, we will have SAG vehicles on both sides of the barricades.

Course Map
You can view the course map ahead of time at our Mt. Charlie page on our website.

Pledges

Please bring your pledges with you to check-in. If you were unable to raise pledges, please plan on giving the $55. donation in lieu of pledges.

Directions To Skypark Park
From Santa Cruz: Take Hwy 17 north toward San Jose. Take Mt. Hermon Exit. Follow Mt. Hermon Road strait, go through 2 stoplights, and take the 2nd right into the shopping center (where the theatre sign is). Follow about 1/10 mile, and take a left on Bluebonnet Rd. The parking lot next to the dog park / skate park is up on the left about 100 yards, or so.
