Mt. Charlie Challenge Pledge Ride Meeting February 3rd

SVEF is holding a Mt. Charlie Challenge Pledge Ride meeting on Wednesday February 3rd.  It will be at SVMS’s Library at 7pm.  We welcome new volunteers to help with this fun event.  We need persons for the planning, rest stops, food organizing, volunteer coordinating, SAG vehicle drivers – lots of fun stuff.

Stay tune for the registration forms and training rides.  Get out those bikes and dust them off.

Another Great Bike Ride!

The Mt. Charlie Challenge was great, a good time was had by all.  The weather was perfect, everyone enjoyed the ride and all went smoothly.  Thank you everyone for joining us and helping us to raise over $19,000. for Scotts Valley Public Schools.

Our Volunteers were incredible again.  We had our core bike committee group, SAG persons, rest stop persons, and some great volunteers from our Educational Foundation, Kiwanis and Scotts Valley High School Key Club, Century 21 Showcase and many many others.  Thank you all.

Donations can still be mailed into SVEF at 4444 Scotts Valley Drive, Ste 5b, Scotts Valley, CA 95066

Mt Charlie Challenge Day of the Ride Information

Saturday April 25th, rain or shine we will have our 7th annual Mt. Charlie Challenge Ride.  Our ride is a pledge ride and we raise funds for our four schools in our district.  If you haven’t signed up and would like to ride we will be taking new registrations that morning.  Since you won’t be able to raise pledges, we ask for a $55. donation.  The ride registration is $45. and with $55. donation your check should be made out to SVEF for $100.  Please bring your pledges that you have collected to registration or call Paula 438-0172 or Charlotte 334-7279 to arrange a drop off before.

We open registration at 7am at Skypark at the Scotts Valley Recreation Building off Kings Village Road.  A goodie bag will be given out until we run out of them.  If you pre-registered you are guaranteed  a goodie bag with t-shirt and extra’s goodies!  We do have some extra’s for last minute registrations as well.

This year our 100k and 50k riders will go out together with a mass start at 8:00am lead out by our Scotts Valley’s Finest Police Officers – probably Officer Hohmann.

We will have vehicles that will provide SAG support – they will have extra water, first aide, bike pumps, some food and smiles.   All the rest stops will have the same.  Rest stops and SAG will be driving through to 2:00pm.  If at any time you would like a ride in, let our SAG groups know.  On your maps there are SAG persons phone numbers.  Keep in mind, some may not have reception on top of Highland Way, for a short time.  You can always call Charlotte’s cell and she will reach someone for you 334-7279.

Come and enjoy the day with us while we support our schools.

Accomplishments – Did You Know?

Many people ask, “What does SVEF do with the money raised each year?”  Here are a few of the ways we’ve helped our schools:

  1. $61,000 went to restore the libraries to 100%, this year.
  2. $80,000 was donated to help with the technology upgrade for our school district.
  3. $10,000 went towards after-school athletics and school supplies.
  4. $5,000 for art and music programs.
  5. $5,000 for special education programs.
  6. $10,000 towards changing classroom locks and installing blinds for security.
  7. $10,000 to purchase additional computer equipment, and some science department textbooks.
  8. $20,000 for wireless internet, outdoor safety lighting, sound systems for performances, and DVD players for classrooms.

This funding was only for the last couple of years, as an example.  As you can see we have been very busy putting your dollars to good work.

Our top fundraiser is the letter campaign that is going on right now. Please consider making a tax deductible donation today.  Another big fundraising event is our annual Mtn. Charlie Challenge.  It will be held May 2nd this coming year, more information will follow soon.

Course Notice
We wanted to make sure all of you riders that are going up Mt. Charlie for the 100k route are aware that the road is quite rough once you are on Highland Way and Eureka Canyon.

Due to prior mudslides the road is closed to car traffic, which makes it nice for bicycles (no traffic), but the road is a rough surface. Please be aware when going in and out of sunlight that you watch the holes and bumps.

We had our group ride go out that way last weekend and they said it was no problem and beautiful. Since it is closed to car traffic, we will have SAG vehicles on both sides of the barricades.

Course Map
You can view the course map ahead of time at our Mt. Charlie page on our website.

Please bring your pledges with you to check-in. If you were unable to raise pledges, please plan on giving the $55. donation in lieu of pledges.
