What Is Going On At SVEF today!

Our Mt. Charlie Challenge was another huge success! We brought in over $25,000 this year alone, for our schools. Over $200,000 for the life of the Mt. Charlie Challenge. Thank you to all of our sponsor, riders and volunteers. Please see our Mt. Charlie Event page to see all of our wonderful sponsors.

Have you made your donation to Dollar-A-Day yet? Did you know that the SV
Educational Foundation has raised over $85,000 to date through DAD?
At this
week’s SVEF meeting, the board voted unanimously to donate over $60,000 of
those funds to keep our libraries open part time next year, instead of being
closed for budgetary reasons. The remaining funds will be dispersed over
the coming months to offset other expected cuts to programs and services.
There is still time to donate!! Your contributions will allow us to maintain
the programs our students need to be successful in life, so please make your
donations now! You can donated though PayPal on our “Help Us” page or mail in a check to SVEF, 245-M Mt. Hermon Road, Scotts Valley, CA 95066

SVEF will have a booth at the upcoming SV Grand Prix Bike Race, being held
May 15 in SV. Students who need community service hours can sign up to
staff the booth, which will be selling drinks to spectators. Please contact
Ann Sayer at [email protected] to sign up! Kids 3-9 can sign up to race for free. Click here to see the registration information.

Finally, we are looking for additional SVEF volunteers for next year!
Interested in working with our local businesses to participate in our
Business Partner Program? Or perhaps you are a PR/Marketing whiz? There
are many opportunities, large and small, within SVEF. This summer the group
will be developing a Strategic Plan to guide the group as we continue to
grow and build our endowment fund and we welcome input from everyone.
Contact Allison Niday at [email protected] if you are interested!

Information on SVUSD Budget Crisis

Recently, an audio recording of the March 8th meeting was posted to the district’s website and Steve Trefethen has highlighted some of the items he felt were of specific interest with a new blog entry. If anything please listen to Karen Jelcick’s comments regarding the severity of the budget crisis particularly in relation to the state ability to extend existing taxes via a June ballot initiative. If such an initiative fails to get on the ballot in June or fails as a result of voting the impact will be substantial and are detailed in the supporting documentation referred to in the blog post.

Please share this blog link with your contact list:

The Money we have raised and what is coming up next

Towards our districts budget shortfall we have raised over $78k.  That includes money from Dollar a Day and $14k from Community Day.

Tutoring Club – SVEF would like to give our thanks to the Tutoring Club of Scotts Valley.  Pat Perkins and Randy Klein have generously donated application fees directly to the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation, totaling over $1000 this year alone!  Last year, their donations reached nearly $500.  Not only do they support us financially, but their efforts to support our students in their learning process are critical.  Randy also acts as the advisor to the Interact Club at the High School, which is the student version of Rotary.  Thank you Pat and Randy for your support of our schools and our students.

SV Holiday Boutique – The holiday boutique opened in King’s Village Shopping Center during the month of December featured many local artists that were willing to contribute a portion of their sales to either SVEF or Second Harvest Food Bank.  During the month, $2686.24 was directed to SVEF.  Thank you to the artist and organizers for making that happen.

Grant Committee – There is still time to join the grant-writing committee that will be working on submitting grant applications to support programs in SVUSD.  No experience necessary!  Much of the work can be done on your own time, and from home or office.  Please contact Allison Niday at 439-1733 or [email protected], if you are interested.

Community Day – Mark your calendars for September 10, 2011 for the second annual Community Day.  Support both the SVEF and our local businesses while raising much needed money for our schools. Stay tuned for more information on this great event!

Mt. Charlie Challenge Pledge Ride Registration is Open! – It is time to sign up for the Mt. Charlie Challenge Pledge Ride again. Go to our Events page for more information and to sign up.

SV Rotary’s 5th Annual Oktoberfest benefits SVEF

Come bring your friends, family and acquaintances to the 5th Annual Oktoberfest. There will be free children’s activities that include face painting, bounce houses, games, and more. Come see the Internationals live on stage here from Germany. Admission is $10.00 except for Veterans, Police, Fire Fighters and Children who are free. Come support your local community.

Email us at [email protected] if you would like a ticket, we will get it to you. All our tickets sales go 100% to SVEF. Click here to see Oktoberfest2010

Dollar A Day Reaches $30,000. today

As of today we have raised $30k since May, towards our goal.

Stay tuned for a letter that will inform our families what kind of items will need to be cut next year if we don’t come up with our district’s goal of $950,000. It is really important to all work together to help raise funds and awareness of our current situation. Hopefully we can get a parcel tax, increase Dollar a Day fundraising and work on other alternative cost saving measures now, to avoid cuts later in the school year. Watch for an informative letter the first week of school.
