Where did the 2010 Community Day dollars go? – Last year Community Day raised $14,000 for the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation (SVEF). Community Day proceeds will go toward the $55,000 the SVEF is donating for the 2011-2012 school year to pay for Library Aides at all four schools! This is a critical need and a HUGE win for our schools.

If you have any questions or want to help contact us; Lori Gentile at [email protected] or Gina Johnson at [email protected]

Volunteers Needed for Community Day – September 10, 2011

Scotts Valley Educational Foundation Community Day Leaders Gina Johnson and Lori Gentile are looking for volunteers to assist with next year’s Community Day, slated for September 10. This event will be in conjunction with The City of Scotts Valley’s e-waste recycling and the first Citywide Garage Sale. Much of the work can be done from home and during times that work for the individual volunteer. Please contact Gina or Lori to sign up. [email protected] or [email protected] .

Marketing/PR – Members of this group will be working with the SVHS ROP Marketing Class members and teacher. Activities will include creating flyers, coordinating ads in papers and on the radio, community outreach, ad for businesses to display, balloons. One person will also need to work with the City to coordinate advertising paid for by the City.

Newspaper Writer – Mike Rein will be heading this group, but could use some help coordinating with the Marketing team and delivering information and pre-written content to our local papers.

Garage Sale/Bake Sale Coordinator – One person is needed to oversee this. The lead can choose to assign neighborhood contacts as well.

Website – While much of the content will be generated by the various sub-committees, we could use a savvy Web person to help us use the website to its full potential.

Acknowledgement Letter/Thank you letter – This group will be responsible for sending acknowledgement after business says “yes” to CD and “thank you” letters after the event. We’ll provide the note cards and letterhead.

School Contacts – A liaison for all 4 schools is needed to be responsible for informing their school via whatever means they can (i.e. newsletter, Friday Folders ,etc)

Card – This group will work with Gina, Lori and Allison to create a ‘card’ that can be sold and used for a year at local business for special discounts or offers. This team will be responsible for working with local businesses to determine their contribution, creating and printing the tickets and managing sales at school and community events.

Phone Call Help – The Phoning group will work with Lori and Gina to make connections with local businesses to confirm their interest in Community Day.

The Money we have raised and what is coming up next

Towards our districts budget shortfall we have raised over $78k.  That includes money from Dollar a Day and $14k from Community Day.

Tutoring Club – SVEF would like to give our thanks to the Tutoring Club of Scotts Valley.  Pat Perkins and Randy Klein have generously donated application fees directly to the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation, totaling over $1000 this year alone!  Last year, their donations reached nearly $500.  Not only do they support us financially, but their efforts to support our students in their learning process are critical.  Randy also acts as the advisor to the Interact Club at the High School, which is the student version of Rotary.  Thank you Pat and Randy for your support of our schools and our students.

SV Holiday Boutique – The holiday boutique opened in King’s Village Shopping Center during the month of December featured many local artists that were willing to contribute a portion of their sales to either SVEF or Second Harvest Food Bank.  During the month, $2686.24 was directed to SVEF.  Thank you to the artist and organizers for making that happen.

Grant Committee – There is still time to join the grant-writing committee that will be working on submitting grant applications to support programs in SVUSD.  No experience necessary!  Much of the work can be done on your own time, and from home or office.  Please contact Allison Niday at 439-1733 or [email protected], if you are interested.

Community Day – Mark your calendars for September 10, 2011 for the second annual Community Day.  Support both the SVEF and our local businesses while raising much needed money for our schools. Stay tuned for more information on this great event!

Mt. Charlie Challenge Pledge Ride Registration is Open! – It is time to sign up for the Mt. Charlie Challenge Pledge Ride again. Go to our Events page for more information and to sign up.
